About Me

Laura Schmits

I am a twin mom, runner, outdoor enthusiast, DIY junkie, voracious reader, and world traveler. I’ve also been teaching middle school social studies and ELA for the past six years! I have my bachelor of arts in International Affairs from CU Boulder and my master of arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University. My goal in starting this blog is to bring more of my faith into the public school classroom and let it influence everything I do from classroom management to curriculum design.

The name “Cracked Vases” came to me many years ago when I was faced with the daunting task of leading 50 men and women on a five-month journey around the world. As a self-professed perfectionist, I was overwhelmed by the fear of failure – of not being good enough, patient enough, or “with it” enough to be what they needed. At that moment, I realized the truth is that I never have been, can be, or will be “enough” in my own eyes. Instead, I’m learning (always learning) to embrace weaknesses and vulnerabilities, faults, flaws, and failures as part of the pilgrimage of life.

Thank you for joining me on the journey!
